Complex Child Protection Matters and Therapeutic Solutions

Not long ago I was involved in a very long and highly litigious Child Protection trial in Toronto. The file began with a high conflict separation with lots of allegations being flung by both parents. Unfortunately for the parents children’s aid became involved in the file and apprehended the parents two children. What followed was a highly litigated child protection file, with numerous motions and conferences and a trial that at five weeks wasn’t nearly completed, then unexpectedly the matter settled in a somewhat unusual manner. Following the resolution, I was asked by the Ontario Bar Association to write an article about the case and it’s unexpected resolution. I think that it is interesting read with some cautionary thoughts for everyone involved in family Law litigation, but especially parents and lawyers.
